As we age, the rate of skin growth slows. The top layer of the skin (the epidermis) thins yet the layer of dead cells on the surface (stratum corneum) becomes more adhesive slowing the natural exfoliation process and creating necrotic tissue build up.
Glycolic acid is what is known as an alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acids, or AHAs, are a family of acids that occur naturally in various fruits and foods.
